Hello, My name Is AJ and In this blog post, I will be discussing my decisions regarding my introduction video.
In my video, I set out to simply and briefly explain my career aspirations, study life, and personal interest. Due to the short 2 minute mark, I was not able to go in-depth or feature many of my interests or specific career aspirations. Therefore I resorted individual explain each topic briefly in a comedic tone. For my personal Interests, I discussed what I do, which is photography; I then followed this through an explanation of what I do in photography and why I like it. As for Career aspirations I simply and Jokingly stated my desire to be wealthy in the future by developing apps as a programmer. I then followed this up with a short explanation of the current and future study content I go through to reach my career goals.
I spent over a day planning out the shot of this video. I adjusted my room to look warm and cozy, with warm lights and objects blended in the background. I did this to both aesthetically improve the overall look and feel of the video, and evoke a sense of warmth and friendliness towards the audience. I then set out to work on the lighting of the video. I first included a backlight to enrich the warmth or luminesce of the background of my video as highlighted above. I then included to side/fill lights to remove and shadows formulated around my face; And finally I bounced off the light gained from a lamp on to a white sheet which provided me with a soft key light on my face to further highlight my self as the subject of the video and pull focus towards me. Finally, I worked on the audio for my video. Upon realising that my shotgun microphone was faulty I decided to record my audio separately using my phone which I position below the frame. One key strategy I used to sync up the audio with the video in post-production was by clapping at the begging to give me an exact point to sync the audio with the video. I also made sure the on-camera audio was recorded as a back up should the phone audio failed.
This video making process was not that complicated or difficult as I have had previous experience in conducting similar projects, however, it did mean that there weren’t any overall issues with video. One major issue I had when shooting was knowing what to say or talk about, as I did necessarily write a script or provide my self with content to talk about. This is something I do wish to improve upon in my next assessment tasks. Another slight issue I faced was the audio having distracting sound spikes throughout the video whenever I moved excessively. In order to fix this, I used audacity in post-production to remove said “sound spikes” and improve the overall quality of the video. This was still not a perfect solution as certain sounds were still noticeable in the final video, therefore in order to fix this, I included a royalty-free track (that did not require any form of license to use) from Youtube Audio Library named “Complicate Ya” by Otis McDonald. This inclusion provided the overall video with a certain pace and entertainment. Overall I was pleased with the result and I hope to use the things I’ve learned to better my content in the future.
