The following video was an opinion piece about the current state of technology with the idea of Digital Divide included. I opened my video with a simple statement about how technology is very useful to people who have access to it then I proceeded to juxtapose it with those who didn’t. I did this to set up the key idea of the video being Digital Divide. I then followed this introduction with a definition of Digital Divide with a humorous tone to further establish the key idea, to make it more clear to the audience as well as add a funny tone to the overall video. After the explanation of the digital divide, I then talked about why it could be a good idea to detach from current technology to be more aware of the world.

I did research over three days to understand my chosen key idea of the digital divide, then spent a day coming up with an idea to include in an opinion piece. Over a weekend I spent setting up the background and lights for the “vlog” aspect of the video. Like in the previous exercise I included a backlight to enrich the background, removed any distracting or irregular items from the background so that the focus will remain on myself, furthermore I added a key light on my face to further improve the quality and the focus of the video. In addition to this, I used a 50mm 1.8 aperture lens to create a very blurry background often seen in higher production videos. This was done to further improve not only the quality but also invite credibility to the video and myself as it would evoke the audience to feel like I am a professional content creator. After the vlog aspect of the video was done; I spent a day collecting old footage from holiday trips and other instances to add as b-roll for the video. I was careful enough to show two societies with one being Melbourne and the other being Sri Lanka to further elaborate on the idea of Digital Divide. As for music I included a simple hip-hop beat from Youtube Audio library as it would match the previous video and keep it consistent to my channel.

One major lesson I could take from this exercise is not to leave things to the last minute. Although I was able to get the vlog footage done to my liking, my energy and presence in the video were very bland due to lack of planning and multiple redos. This also led me to rush my editing giving me less time to color correct footage and add transitions. This also led me to submit two days late. For future exercises, I hope to improve my time management and overall planning.
